Drinking OMGTea’s matcha increases fat burning, which may boost weight loss for those undertaking regular exercise.
Forget Dieting, Drink Matcha instead for aided weight loss!
New research reveals OMGTea’s Organic Matcha boosts fat burning and aids weight loss during exercise, in healthy females.
- Drinking matcha increases fat burning, which may boost weight loss for those undertaking regular exercise.
- Drinking matcha also had no adverse physiological effects such as raised heart rate or blood pressure.
INNOVATIVE new research from the University of Chichester reveals how organic matcha can significantly increase fat burning during exercise.
The findings showed that the females had higher fat burning during brisk walking with matcha green tea. It was also very interesting to note that there appeared to be no adverse physiological effects meaning that matcha is also a very healthy alternative to other weight loss products on the market.
This study carried out at the University of Chichester’s Department of Sport & Exercise Sciences indicates how drinking matcha green tea may benefit those looking to lose fat more efficiently and quickly while undertaking exercise as part of a weight loss program.
It may also offer a natural, nutritional intervention for aiding weight loss and preventing obesity by burning fat faster during regular, gentle exercise activity. Matcha green tea contain one of the highest concentrations of polyphenols and antioxidants called catechins in any commercially-grown food. EGCg, L-Theanine and natural caffeine are the active ingredient that delivers the weight loss and potential sports performance benefits.
Mark Willems, Professor in Exercise Physiology at the University of Chichester, comments:
“To be able to come out with these findings on fat oxidation and performance is just wonderful. I expect an increased interest to discover additional potential of matcha intake in the world of diet and exercise.”
Athletes using OMGTea’s matcha include England Cricketers, Ian Bell MBE, Alex Hales and Alec Stewart OBE.
OMGTea founder Katherine Swift said:
“This amazing new research is the first step in OMGTea’s mission to validate the health claims around matcha, we have more research planned and another very exciting piece which will be published in early 2017 where we have looked at the effect of matcha on breast cancer stem cells”
Katherine’s matcha journey started over 7 years ago when her mum was diagnosed with breast cancer. Her story is what makes OMGTea unique amongst matcha brands. Read more about our story here >>

I don’t know about you, but at OMGTEA we like to know exactly what matcha we’re drinking. We want to know where it came from, who has grown it and what journey it’s taken to get to our cup. That’s why we’re very careful about making sure that OMGTEA Matcha is sourced from Nishio region of Japan.
There are two major regions in which Matcha is cultivated, one is Nishio in the heart of Aichi-prefecture, and the other one is Uji of Kyoto Japan. Some of Japan’s highest quality teas come from Nishio, where the Japanese have been cultivating tea since the 1200’s.
Our OMGTEA comes from Nishio region of Japan.
Nishio’s stable climate, fresh and beautifully clear river waters, fertile soil and situated miles from polluted urban areas means it’s tea leaves are more resiliently grown, green and packed full of nutrients – more so than those found in any other regions of Japan.
The key region for organic cultivation is located 600m above sea level providing a cooler climate. These lower temperatures provide a natural barrier against insects. This is obviously very important since organic production does not use any pesticides and relies on natural fertilizers only.
The matcha farmers in this region are considered among the best in Japan for organic cultivation.
We’re heading out to meet the amazing farmers who cultivate our OMGTEA matcha. So you can be sure that OMGTEA is and always will be top quality, premium grade, and organic matcha – the exact kind of matcha you should be drinking to get maximum benefits.

According to recent research drinking Matcha with citrus juice or vitamin C improves the health benefits of the tea. This is because citrus juice significantly boosts the bioavailability of Matcha’s antioxidants, known as catechins, meaning your body can absorb more of these compounds (as much as 13 times) which have been linked to lowered cancer risk as well as improved heart and brain health.
The study at Purdue University involved putting green tea alone and with various additives through a model that simulated gastric and small-intestinal digestion. The research found that catechins are unstable in non-acidic environments such as the intestines and less than 20 percent of the total remains after digestion. But adding vitamin C to your
OMGTEATM Matcha increased the levels of the two most abundant catechins by six fold and thirteen fold, epigallocatechin-gallate (EGCG), and epicatechin-gallate (ECG), respectively.
Not only lemon but lime, orange and grapefruit were all shown to be effective and whilst adding 10% juice was helpful, the best catechin preservation happened at levels of 20 to 50 percent juice.
This suggests that while adding a squeeze of lemon to tea is an excellent idea, it also makes sense consider 20% to 50% blends using orange and grapefruit juices. For those purists out there have a citrus drink before your Matcha, that’s what we often do!

We were delighted to be exhibiting at the OM Yoga show in London last weekend. Having a presence at such a high profile and well attended Yoga show was important to OMGTEATM due to its amazing relevance for yoga and meditation practices.
Few people know that Matcha was introduced into Japanese culture over 800 years ago by the Zen Buddhist monks who used it to help their meditation and we love the fact that they still drink it for the same reasons to this day. Samurais also got a taste for it not long after, sipping it before battles for increased endurance and focus.
Both yoga and meditation can definitely help us to become more wakeful and mindful during the day and drinking a cup of Matcha before both really does “jumpstart” a session like nothing else. You will feel more at ease, less jittery and able to concentrate better not to mention more energised.
In no small part the explanation of Matcha’s role in this enhanced state of mind is the very high concentration of the amino acid called L-theanine, which has been shown to reduce physiological and psychological stresses. L-theanine also improves cognition and mood in a synergistic manner with caffeine and promotes alpha wave production in the brain. This is also pretty much what meditation does. We like to think of matcha as “liquid meditation.”
So remember to drink it before your next yoga or meditation session! We promise you won’t look back.
