How Matcha Can Help You Survive the Holiday Season

If the song is to be believed, Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year. And whilst it really is a time for celebration, the commitments and demands associated with the holiday season also have the potential to leave you feeling tired and stressed.

We think the key to a relaxing and enjoyable holiday season is remembering to stop and take time for yourself from time to time, preferably with a cup of healthful matcha. Here are just a few reasons why we think matcha is the perfect drink to get you through the holiday season.

Increased Energy

The run up to Christmas can be exhausting with social commitments, shopping, cooking and entertaining draining us of energy. Whilst unfortunately, matcha won’t wrap the presents for you, it may give you that little extra boost of energy you need to get everything done.

The combination of the naturally occurring amino acids and caffeine can give an instant yet consistent boost to energy levels. Most people feel the stimulative effects of a cup of matcha for at least two hours, but they can last as long as six hours for some people.

Detox

Christmas ‘tis the season for indulgence which is a heck of a lot of fun when we’re in the moment but afterwards, it can often leave us feeling lethargic or even unwell.

Matcha is packed with chlorophyll, which is not only what gives matcha tea and other plants their rich green colour but it’s also a powerful detoxifier, helping to eliminate both chemicals and heavy metals from the body. Combined with an exceptionally high level of antioxidants, it is great for detoxifying the body after a period of unhealthy eating and drinking.

Improve Immunity

The pressures of the holiday season, combined with the after-effects of a busy year, can sometimes cause us to feel run down. Whilst matcha isn’t a miracle drink that will completely protect us from colds or other illness, it can give us a little extra help.

As well as being filled with antioxidants and vitamins, matcha contains a powerful catechin that promotes T-cell production which is crucial in fighting pathogens, viruses and bacteria. This makes matcha green tea a great immune system booster!

Relieve Stress

If, like most people, spending time with family over Christmas is not quite like the Hallmark films, you may be looking for a way to relieve the stress. Quality matcha can help with that too!

Matcha has extraordinarily high amounts of the amino acid L-theanine, which has strong associations with the production of alpha waves in the brain. When L-theanine is absorbed into the bloodstream, dopamine and serotonin levels tend to rise and produce alpha waves, which often create feelings of well-being, general happiness, relaxation, and alertness.

Whatever your plans are during the holiday season, we hope you take the time to relax and look after yourself whether that’s enjoying a nap (or several), going for a long walk, reading a good book or binge watching a new TV series. These continue to be extraordinary times, making it even more important than ever before for us to focus on our health and happiness.

Sending you best wishes for a joyful Christmas.
